I created a Moderator user for my forum but never got emailed a password. I've tried it again with a different password and the same thing. I then try to retrieve the password but I continue to get a message that says:
"The e-mail could not be sent. Possible reason: your host may have disabled the mail() function…"
I've tested all my emails everything is coming and going as normal and these are with different hosting companies. It's not in any junk folders and I ever tested it with hotmail and still no password is coming through from initial sign up ot when I go back and click forgot password.
Is there a setting somewhere that's preventing this?
Thanks for any help in advance!

The blog and our main site are hosted with GoDaddy.
I just got an email to reset my password in my Hotmail account but I never received one telling me what the password was. Checked junk too. Haven't received either the intial password or reset password emails on my regular business mail account.
Almost 30 min later, the initial email for "Here's your password" came through on my Hotmail account, after the lost password one. Still nothing on other emails an hour or more after registering a new name.

Hi,
testing out SimplePress as forum software in a yet to be released wordpress site, i find that when I register a test user, it does show up in my WP database (2.7.1) and it does show up in the user list of SPF but… the newly registered user does not get an email with password so cannot log in…
I have tested this on myself using an email account that I own myself.
What am I not getting or which setting have I overlooked?
Do I need to install the bug fix that is listed on the download page?
So far it looks good and what's more, it was very easy to install!
Thanks, Mamboe

again, the sending of passwords is handled by wp and not this plugin… there are tons of support requests in the wordpress support forumdealing with wp emails… I would start checking there…
One very common one I will pass along that we might be able to help with is the setup of some hosts… by default, wp send emails from wordpress@yoursite.com. on some hosts, if the email address wordpress@yoursite.com does not actually exist, they will supress the sending of those emails.
if thats the case, several options…
on your server, in your control panel, create a new email account with address of wordpress@yoursite.com (obviously, replace yoursite.com with your domain and tld)…
grab the mail-from plugin and make wordpress send the emails from a different address that does exist…
use the spf email settings to accomplish something similar to the mail from plugin… settings are on forum – options – email tab…

@Mr Papa, ouch, realize you must have answered this question tons of times.. sorry! I tried to find it searching your forum but could not nor on wordpress so must not have been searching the right way. Will go try it our tomorrow (in europe so past bedtime now ;-)
Thanks! Will let you know once it is sorted!
Feedback I read about SimplePress on most sites/blogs is very good. Looking forward to release 4.1. My site will not be up and running for a while so maybe I can include 4.1 even before we go live if release is indeed in July.
Ciao Mamboe

4.1 should be beta later this month… release is hoped for by the end of the summer… if things go right, we might get an alpha of 4.1 up on this site next week.

@Mr Papa,
the interesting is .. could not help testing it anyway even though it is 2am right now, that I got it to work..
I had completely overlooked setting up options – email in SPF.
However, it is not working with a yahoo.com account.
I tested it with 2 email accounts that I own; one that is not related to my site yet comes into my outlook and my yahoo.com account.
The notification that a new user is setup does reach my site email account and does reach my non-yahoo account, but somehow WP does not send emails to yahoo. And I checked the spam settings in yahoo. Anyway, it works and I will keep trying for a way to get it to reach yahoo and will check the WP forums.
Thanks so far!!
Good night!
Ciao Mamboe

Same problem here at ps3community.ch. Some users – like me – don't receive a mail when they get a new PM, although the setting for sending such a mail is active, the spf mail settings set and the email (info@ps3community.ch) set up as a "real email" as well. We are hosting on dreamhost and the mail is done by gmail.
Will this mail plugin solve this issue?

I can't answer your question but hopefully someone can.
I may be wrong but I have heard before that Dreamhost mail can be a problem – at least I believe they have a low count on how many emails can be sent at the same time. Might be a problem if someone were sending PM's to a lot of members.
Wordpress + Email + Hosting is a long standing problem.

I have the same problem with you before, and the worst is, it's sending mail to my own mailbox.
Try to install WP Mail SMTP plugin.
If you have an access to your CPanel or Webpanel, try to look for your mail configuration then use that information to configure the plugin.

Ok the plugin is working fine for me. I also have deactivated the mail override settings in the forum options, just to be on the save side.
The strange thing is that I as an admin don't get notified when I receive a new PM. When I open a test acount (a hosted one as well) then erverything works fine.
